So far, firing a rocket to a door has always made 100% damage to them. This means that if the door doesn't have INF strength, it will always bust open. I also happen to have 17 rockets right now, so I can save on lockpicks for a while.. but honestly, rockets do seem like overkill.
Now, not everything damages doors; for example, the combat knife doesn't; stealth pistols don't, .. are there less drastic ways to bust a door open?

Explosives:
Explosives always destroy any door with a finite strength.
This includes the GEP Gun (both types of rounds), the LAW, and LAMs.
In the environment, you can also find TNT crates and explosive barrels with yellow decals on the side. You can even use TNT crates directly without shooting them: just throw the TNT crate directly at the thing you want to blow up, and duck behind a corner to avoid the blast. (*1)
Barrels with red decals on the side don't seem to work.
Use of any of these explosives will destroy all doors (cabinet doors, chest lids, ..) within the radius of the explosion, even if they are on the far side of a wall.
Sniper Rifle with Master-level Rifle skill
Works on most doors with strength 50% or less.
Not all 50% strength doors will yield to the sniper rifle. There are a bunch of wooden doors in the Paris streets ('Paris - near the Champs-Elysses') that have 50% strength, but can't be broken by the sniper rifle.
Master rifle skill + sniper rifle also works to destroy cameras, turrets, and alarm panels in a single shot. A silenced sniper rifle lets stealth players destroy these security devices with impunity. (Less stealthy players can use Sabot shotgun rounds.)
Dragon's Tooth Sword:
With Master Weapons: Low Tech skill and a L2 Combat Strength augmentation (arm augmentation slot), the Dragon's Tooth Sword can break most doors with 50% strength, as well as cameras, turrets, and alarm panels. Sometimes you can also break 70% strength doors; other times there are 25% doors that resist the Dragon's Tooth.
Breaking cameras, turrets, and alarm panels with the Dragon's Tooth sword is silent.
Other methods that work on weak doors:
Weak doors, with strength 25% or less, can often be broken using:
- Melee weapons - crowbar (6 base damage) or baton (7 base damage). I prefer the baton, because it only takes up one inventory slot.
- Pistol - 14 base damage
- Stealth pistol - 8 base damage
- Mini-crossbow using normal (gray) darts - 25 base damage, and you get the darts back afterwards!
Weak doors include:
- Locker doors in shower blocks and barracks
- Doors of shipping containers
- Rear doors of cargo trucks
- Doors that are mirrors (??) (i.e. upstairs at Smugglers)
- Some wooden doors
- Rarely, these tricks work on strong doors as well. It never hurts to shoot a few mini-crossbow darts at a 50% door, to see if it breaks.
AI exploits:
All NPCs can open all doors - if you can trick them into running through them.
If you attract the attention of a guard by making a loud noise, they will open any doors in-between you and them in order to search for you.
Conversely, if you scare a civilian (or cripple a soldier), they will run away from you. If you get them to run in the correct direction, they will open doors in an attempt to escape from you. For example, if you scare the Australian girls in front of the Lucky Money Club in Hong Kong (try shooting the chairs they are sitting on), they will run past the doors and you can get into the club without paying.
(*1) I threw a lot of TNT crates directly at things because my last playthrough was a 'No pistols, no rifles' playthrough, which means that I didn't have any ranged weapons to shoot a TNT crate with.

- GEP guns work on everything without infinite strength:
- LAM rounds
- Dragon's Tooth Sword works on most wooden objects such as doors (tested up to 50% str)
It's possible to destroy some weak doors with baton and L1 combat strength, but it's rare to find doors like that (at least you can save that one lock-pick at Battery Park)

Lots of different things will damage doors depending on how the door strength and damage threshholds are set. You just have to try it. Usually though, what is gold in most cases has already been mentioned, such as explosives, master sniper rifle, DTS on a reasonable level+combat strength aug, and so on. But I've broken doors with my pistol, crowbar, and regular swords before. You just have to experiment.

The Deus Ex Revision mod will be released in a few hours. Described on its ModDB page as a 'large scale re-imagining' of Ion Storm's Deus Ex, it overhauls the original with new lighting, improved textures a remastered soundtrack.
'We also bundle in some of the best enhancements the community has to offer: high-detail textures and models, Direct3D 9 rendering, and alternate gameplay modes,' says project creative director John French, via a statement put out by Eidos Montreal. The Mankind Divided publisher is officially endorsing the mod, which has been in production for seven years, according to updates on their ModDB page.
You can download the mod at 6:30PM BST / 10AM PST for free via its Steam page. I jumped into the original and a preview build of the Revision mod earlier today to take a few comparison screenshots, which you can scroll through above.
Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition and Human Revolution will be on sale from today through to October 16 at 80% off as part of the Steam Stealth Sale.
The Deus Ex series may be dead and buried (until such time as some studio decides to revive the franchise again), but there’s no keeping the Sunglasses At Night crew down.
You might not have asked for it, but Deus Ex Revision might be just what you need for your immersive sim fix. An ambitious fan-made remastering of the original Deus Ex, officially publisher-endorsed and even praised by the original developers.
While Deus Ex offers a lot of freedom, stealth is wildely accepted as the way to play. Indulge your sneakier side here.
As you can see from the trailer above, Revision applies a generous lick of paint to the 17-year-old game, but the changes are far more than cosmetic. A lot of maps have been expanded to feel more like real-life spaces, allowing them to fit in a lot of extra combat encounters, secrets and areas to explore. Some rushed-feeling later areas such as Area 51 have been enormously expanded, making them feel almost entirely new.
There’s more room to sneak and hide, but also more opportunities to fight, if that’s your thing. Beyond that, there’s some neat little features such as achievements in the Steam version, offering hundreds of fun little things to do. My favourite of them all is Rules Of Nature, awarded to players who forget they’re not playing Metal Gear Rising and take down a heavy security mech using a melee weapon.
There’s some entirely new content as well, including a wave-survival minigame, allowing you to build up JC Denton into the ultimate combat cyborg, and test him on the field of battle. It’s impressive how different Deus Ex feels when you’re not speccing your character for evasion and espionage.
It’s been just over two years since the initial release of Deus Ex Revision, and developers Caustic Creative haven’t been resting on their laurels. To celebrate the second anniversary of their launch, they released a massive update, entitled Mystic, with a smaller update this week polishing it up even further.
Mystic was mostly minor tweaks and improvemnts, but also a slew of fun new alternate playmodes such as Ninja, where you start with both Leg augmentations, both cloaking systems, but are limited to only using low-tech weapons. There’s also Matrix Mode, where engaged NPCs transform into murderous men in black the moment they’re out of sight. Also a toggle to add a hidden collectible item to every map, rewarding diligent explorers with some minor bonuses and an achievement if you find all 75.
It is difficult to keep your aim right whilst walking, but some practice (in combat training of necessary) will go a long way. When you are taking on an enemy at long range I still recommend you strafe but aim down the sights and burst fire. The class setup I recommend is the following. However, the Chicom CQB doesn’t have much recoil when you burst fire so it is also capable at long range, but isn’t as good as assault rifles at long range. When you are hip firing strafing is very important as it helps you evade enemy fire. As soon as you see an enemy start strafing left and right as well as shoot. Black ops 2 chicom.
Pro tip: I highly recommend that before you start playing, go into the gameplay options menu and switch up to Biomod mode. The mod defaults to vanilla-ish gameplay, but Biomod brings things a lot closer to modern spec, adding random loot, unique weapons, better balanced and more intuitive cyberware and replacing the awful Swimming skill with the broadly useful Athletics specialization.
You can get Deus Ex Revision via Steam, GOG or ModDB. You’ll need a copy of the original Deus Ex to run it, but you probably already have that five times by now.
